[So if you haven't seen Tavros for some time, it's probably because he's gone off exploring.
Actually he got a little overzealous and made his way into the Ilex forest, of all places. That was a pretty big mistake on his part, but. At least he was fairly, decently prepared. So there's no reason to panic! No reason at all.
He's most definitely not. panicking.
Except when the video switches on, he does look a little nervous and it's obvious he's trying not to look it.]
I don't want to alarm anybody, but I think that, uh, there might be a little problem. I seem to, uh, have made my way into a really large, and dark forest. Which, uh, isn't so bad, actually. But, mainly the part that might be alarming, and which I hope isn't, is that... Uh. I can't remember where it is that, I came in at.
I don't think that, uh, I'm really all that lost, though... Just mostly, turned around, maybe... But just... theoretically, if I were potentially lost... What would I do? Again, uh, just asking. I am most definitely probably not lost.

Okay, first of all there should be a compass feature in your Pokegear. Try to find that. Once you've oriented yourself, check the map to see which direction the exit you're looking for is. Then, head in that direction. As long as you keep going in the same direction, you can at least avoid walking around in circles even if you don't know exactly where you are.
Stick to the path if there is one. Keep an eye out for landmarks, anything at all you might recognize. They can help you figure out where you are. On that note, leave markers for yourself so you'll be able to figure out if you've been someplace before, just in case you somehow get turned around again.

Well, it could be anything, as long as you can make it with the materials around you and recognize it easily. A symbol that's familiar to you, your name carved into a tree, that sort of thing. For example, if it were me, I'd probably write my initials on trees every so often while I was traveling.

I would suggest choosing a direction and taking it as consistently as possible. I believe the Pokegear device comes with a map function, if necessary.

It does, but the problem with that, is... I don't know where I should be going, so I can't really use the map. Also, uh, I don't know where I am, on the map.

Do you possess any flying-type Pokebeasts? They might be better able to ascertain the proper path to the next human settlement.

... I was told the trick is to find a shrine and then travel southwest. There's a compass in the gear that helps quite a lot.
Also, using a bird to search for a path helps a lot.
